Who they are

Salix Moon Apothecary is a small botanical skincare brand rooted in folk herbalism — a modern apothecary that nods to the apothecaries of old, formulating natural beauty and self-care products by hand with plant extracts that have been used for millennia. Every product is handmade in small batches by Louise and her partner Max in their home studio in Leigh On Sea, Essex.

Louise’s fixation with herbal skincare grew from a deep love of foraging wild foods and medicines. Increasingly drawn to the herbs that reside in our hedgerows and wild spaces, she became fascinated by the magical folklore, rituals and superstitions that surround them — and began experimenting with foraged herbs for her own home apothecary, making topical remedies for herself and her family.

Frustrated by the lack of natural, plastic-free skincare available, she turned her focus to botanicals and oils for the skin. Salix Moon was born from her love and respect for the natural world, combining her infatuation with herbs with a background in design, a love of vintage aesthetics and botanical illustration — right down to drawing the plants on their labels herself.

Every Salix Moon product is rooted in botanical knowledge and a genuine connection to the land. Ingredients are chosen with the same care and curiosity that goes into foraging — purposeful, considered and respectful of nature. Plastic-free by conviction, not convenience. From experimenting with essential oil combinations to create entirely new scents, to the hand-drawn botanical illustrations on every label, the craft runs through every detail.
